The lateral approach for maxillary sinus elevation, while being the most documented technique in the literature, is considered by many clinicians to be a highly invasive surgical procedure to be avoided. After 35 years of constant clinical research the Minimally Invasive Lateral Sinus (MILS) Technique has been developed, significantly reducing the invasiveness of the surgical procedure and the intra-op complications like perforations and bleeding events while enhancing the patient’s postoperative comfort.
This presentation will detail the clinical-surgical protocol, which consists of a series of innovative preparatory and postoperative steps combined with a set of intraoperative procedural modifications, from flap design to new antrostomy design. Through continuous refinements of the classical maxillary sinus lateral approach, this comprehensive clinical -surgical protocol has enabled the creation of a highly predictable and minimally invasive procedure.
